Hounds are welcome however there are some things to take note of:
- The gardens are not fenced and you dog may not be locked in the log cabin or left unattended.
- There are wild animals and some can be dangerous if your dog chases them (baboons, monkeys or bushbuck).
- There are ticks in the long grass, so dogs should be ‘Frontlined’ before visiting and checked daily.
- Guests must take responsibility for the care of your dog and its “landmines”.
- An indemnity form agreeing to these terms will need to be signed.
- Bowls and bedding need to be brought from home and care must be taken in the venue with regard to muddy feet on carpets and they are not permitted on the beds, chairs and couches.
- Be consiterate of other guests, they don’t want to be disturbed by barking or be “accosted” by a dog.
There has never been a problem with any of the many canine visitors at Magoebaskloof Getaway because pet-parents know if their hounds have the right bush-wise personality for this kind of holiday.

Magoebaskloof Getaway is passionate about its natural environment and strives to conserve the land, river, forests and natural habitat for over 250 bird species and other wildlife found on the property. They have also restricted access to the forest where the rare and endangered Samango monkeys live, ensuring no human interference.
Old Blue Gum plantations are being cleared and indigenous plant species are planted in an effort to rehabilitate these sections of land and extend the natural forest.
Besides magnificent waterfalls, the property also has its own fountain which supplies all of the cottages with pure spring water. To conserve this resource, the bathrooms have duel flush toilets and flow restrictor showerheads. The gardens are also completely indigenous and due to the climate seldom require watering.
In an effort to save energy the cottages have all got gas geysers, gas stoves and all lighting has energy efficient bulbs. Due to the moderate climate it is unnecessary to have any air-conditioning or heating systems.
Magoebaskloof Getaway employs and develops people from the local community. There are 8 full-time employees, but many more temporary workers are contracted throughout the year. The owner also volunteers his time and skills to train young adults from underprivileged communities in the fields of IT and web design.
