Dream Lodge: Romance redefined. Just one hour from Johannesburg and Pretoria, 30 minutes from Rustenburg.  Dream Lodge is located on a tranquil farm, 17km’s outside the quaint town of Magaliesburg in the North-West province of South Africa. The tranquility, peace and quiet of the location and fine attention to detail make Dream Lodge the ultimate romantic breakaway.

Both Agama and Gecko Cottages are set in the veld in total privacy and have 35 candles in niches around their inner walls, built in fireplaces and outside couches for sundowners. Designed for two people who want to spend some special, private and quiet time together, the romantic atmosphere these cottages exude make it easy to reconnect.

Chameleon cottage can also be a romantic self-catering break or is well-suited for a family or group of friends looking for an off-the-grid farm-stay.

Agama Cottage is situated privately on a hill with a view of the Magalies Mountains. This gorgeous rondavel made of stone and thatch has wooden floors, an extra length Queen size bed, enormous bath with a view and a comfy couch in front of a built-in wood burning fireplace. For a more daring experience, “expose yourself to nature” in the outdoor shower and enjoy the mountain views in the fresh open air. Candles and lanterns will illuminate this romantic cottage at night as there is no electricity and the solar geyser provides hot water.

Agama cottage can only be accessed by high clearance vehicle; so guests with normal vehicles can leave their vehicles at Broken Hill Farmhouse and be shuttled up to the cottage or are welcome to walk the 1.6km’s if they prefer. A perfect place to unwind, experience bliss and reconnect with your soul-mate.

Gecko Cottage of stone and thatch blends into the natural surrounds of grassland and acacia bush and has a truly magical atmosphere. The cottage has a queen size brass bed, indoor wood burning fireplace and delightful Victorian bath with hot water supplied by a solar geyser. The outdoor couch is an ideal spot to laze and enjoy the peace of the veld and just down the hill you will find a small labyrinth.

Chameleon Cottage is situated 200m from the main farmhouse and offers panoramic views over the farmland and beyond. This old fashioned farmhouse is off-the-grid and has a tranquil charm of its own. The main cottage consists of a double bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen equipped with gas stove, wood burning oven, gas fridge and dining area. On the outside corridor is another bedroom with an adult size bunk bed and separate single bed. This cottage has solar geyser and lighting, braai facilities, a large bonfire-boma, can be self-catering or catered and sleeps up to 5 people making it an ideal family farm-stay.

Dream Lodge is guided by simplicity and sustainability; as such they grow their own vegetables and serve healthy meals that contain as little preservatives and additives as possible, including Grass-fed Beef, Organic duck and veggies. Dinner and breakfast are delivered and served at the cottages at the time of your choosing. Depending on the weather, it can be candlelit dinner by the fireplace or under the stars!

The three-course dinner and health-breakfast menu will change according to season and it will be adapted to meet your needs. These meals are included in Gecko and Agama rates, whereas Chameleon has an adjustable rate structure as you can opt for self-catering.

With many walking routes, more than 200 bird species, privacy and attentive service, Dream Lodge is the ideal opportunity to wind down, relax and reconnect with yourself and your partner in nature.

At Agama you can lounge around on the outside couch with a book while listening to the larks or set off in search of the Ba-Tswana ruins at the nearby kloof. You can enjoy a summer braai; explore the veld and the labyrinth at Gecko.  A stay at Chameleon Cottage gives children the opportunity to gather eggs, and take part in farm activities. There is also a fenced swimming pool at the main house which guests are welcome to use.

From Johannesburg: Drive northwest on Hendrik Potgieter. Continue straight to the Krugersdorp highway AKA the N14. Dream lodge takes great pride in acting in accordance to and promoting sustainable living.

Efforts are made to reduce, reuse and recycle for example all glass waste is repurposed, plastics are taken into town to be recycled and all organic waste matter is fed to the farm animals or composted.

Gentle goats’ milk soaps are provided in the guest bathrooms; they are made locally and are naturally good for you and the environment.

They grow many of their ownorganic vegetables and source other requirements locally and as responsibly as possible.

Dream Lodge is completely off the electrical grid and the only power comes from the sun via solar panels and solar geysers as well as gas geysers, stove and fridge.

Most of the structures on the farm have been built in an environmentally sensitive mannerusing materials found on the farm like stone and thatch.

In an effort to conserve water resources and rehabilitate the land, they have removed all the invasive species like Blue Gum and Black Wattle and have been planting indigenous trees, especially Acacia Karroo due to its nitrogen-fixing fungi attached to its roots – which increase the surrounding soil`s fertility and health.

The owner and host of Dream Lodge believes in taking an active role in giving back to the local community. She offers free HIV testing to neighbors, and uses her background skills as a social worker offering HIV and general life counseling to her own and all neighboring farm workers and their families. Realising that education is of paramount importance, Sam also volunteers several hours a week to provide additional tutoring for high school students from this area.
