South African Sustainable Seafood Initiative

South African Sustainable Seafood Initiative (SASSI) was initiated by WWF South Africa in collaboration with other networking partners in November 2004 in order to inform and educate all participants in the seafood trade, from wholesalers to restaurateurs through to seafood lovers. SASSI`s 3 Primary Objectives include promoting voluntary compliance of the law through education and awareness; shifting consumer demand away from over-exploited species to more sustainable options; creating awareness around marine conservation issues.

Fair Trade Tourism

Fair Trade Tourism (FTT) is a non-profit organisation that promotes responsible tourism in South Africa and beyond. The aim of FTT is to make tourism more sustainable by ensuring that the people who contribute their land, resources, labour and knowledge to tourism are the ones who reap the benefits.


Fairtrade is an ethical certification whose main aim is to promote more equality and sustainability in the farming sector. A product that carries the Fairtrade Certification Mark has met the rigorous Fairtrade Standards, which focus on improving labour and living conditions for farming communities and on promoting a way of farming that doesn’t harm either people or the environment.

Sustainability Institute

The Sustainability Institute is an international living and learning centre located outside the South African university town of Stellenbosch. BirdLife South Africa

BirdLife South Africa is a registered non-profit, public benefit environmental organization, the only dedicated bird-conservation organisation in South Africa and has over 6 000 members in 32 bird clubs throughout the country. The mission of BirdLife South Africa is to promote the enjoyment, conservation, study and understanding of wild birds and their habitats.

EcoBrick Exchange

The EcoBrick Exchange (EBE) is an environment awareness enterprise that facilitates the construction of preschools in underprivileged communities using unrecyclable plastic waste. They do this by using EcoBricks – plastic waste compressed into PET-bottles – a highly insulating building material that is water-, fire- and even bullet-proof. Their programmes empower individuals to address the shortage of quality education facilities, implement sustainable waste management systems and raise environmental awareness.

Wilderness Foundation

The Wilderness Foundation is a founding member of the Climate Action Partnership (CAP), a powerful alliance of South African environmental NGO’s that recognise that climate change is not just an environmental challenge, but a political, social and economic challenge.
