SEA VILLA GLEN CRAIG: GREEN ACTS FOR SUSTAINABLE TOURISM
Sea Villa Glen Craig is very aware of the importance of sustainable solutions and is dedicated to making every effort to lessen our carbon footprint, maintain our property in the most eco-friendly way possible and apply the principals of sustainable living in the biosphere. We wish to protect and conserve the environment and hand it over to the next generation in the most pristine condition possible.
We have removed thousands of alien plants and trees (you couldn ?t see the sea from our verandah); this is an ongoing process. Wood used for our log fires is all from these invasive alien trees.
We have an organized recycling procedure where all tin, plastic, paper and glass is separated. Our 4 worm farms deal with the majority of the fresh kitchen waste and provides us with a wonderful supply of natural fertilizer and rich compost.
Our garden benches are made of recycled plastic from a local business and our wooden pool loungers are from old wine vats that have been recycled by a local entrepreneur.
Sea Villa Glen Craig chooses to use more natural substances for the sake of the environment for example we only use bio-degradable, eco-friendly cleaning products and the salt chlorinator used for the swimming pool was made locally by a retired professor.
All light bulbs are low wattage and timers are used where possible to keep light pollution down and improve star gazing. We make use of solar lights for outdoor functions.
The gardens are all indigenous and mountain water is used to maintain them.
To minimise our carbon impact and to support local we use as many local suppliers as possible.
We only serve fish in our dining room that is on the SASSI green list.
Snakes are captured and removed away to the reserve.
We support small self-help projects where possible. The quilts on the beds were all made by a self-help project and the white table linen by another. The waste paper baskets in all of the bedrooms were made by the blind.
Kleinmond Cabs is the preferred taxi service (owned and managed by previously disadvantaged people).
