Reflections Eco-reserve is on a 28 hectare rehabilitated pine plantation situated in Rondevlei, a picturesque area in the Wilderness Lakes districts. The reserve is surrounded by the Garden Route National Park on 3 sides and is rich in natural beauty.
This family-owned and run self-catering eco-reserve is inspired to be as environmentally friendly as possible and is the perfect getaway for anyone wanting to retreat into nature.
The lodge has 4 extremely well appointed luxury chalets that allow privacy and exclusivity; all of which are completely powered up by the wind and sun, creating the ultimate “clean holiday” experience.
ECO-FRIENDLY ACCOMMODATION WILDERNESS
The luxury chalets can cater for 6 people as each have 2 bedrooms, a large bathroom with shower, bath and toilet; there is an additional toilet as well as an outdoor shower for the more adventurous. The upstairs loft is well suited to single guests and children.
The spacious open-plan kitchen is fully equipped and the lounge / dining area is elegant and comfortable with a fireplace. The wrap around deck has amazing views and is the perfect spot to relax while listening to the iconic call of our resident Fish Eagles.
While fantastic walks and outstanding birding (over 140 species) can be done at Reflections Eco Reserve, we also have a plethora of activities nearby: magnificent Indian Ocean beaches are only 15 minutes away; the forests and mountains make for great hiking, climbing and biking adventures; canoeing; golf, and awesome birding (the greater area exceeds 200, and many endemic species).
We also have our own S.A.T.O.U.R and F.G.A.S.A qualified guide who is a very keen birder and provides an excellent naturalist guided experience.
REFLECTIONS ECO RESERVE: GREEN ACTS FOR SUSTAINABLE TOURISM
Recycling, Green cleaning, Responsible body products, Sustainable energy acumen, Conservation, Land rehabilitation.
Reflections Eco Reserve is completely off the grid. All power is produced by a hybrid Wind Turbine-Solar combination and hot water is supplied using solar geysers, with gas geysers serving as a backup on raining winter days.
We have our own gravity fed water source which is recycled by us therefore all cleaning products are completely biodegradable and are certified to break down within 6 days of being used. We also encourage our guests to only use natural and biodegradable shower and bath products to prevent contamination of ground water.
We recycle all glass, plastic, cans, paper and turn organic waste into compost; we encourage all our guests to assist in this effort by separating their refuse.
We supply all our own fire wood rather than driving to fetch it and by doing this we assist with the removal of non-indigenous trees.
We are active within our land rehabilitation programme and have cleared over 26 hectares of alien vegetation. All pine trees have been eradicated, with the exception of a line of pines adjacent the Garden Route National Park that has been home to a pair of African Fish Eagles for many years. The indigenous vegetation is already thriving and each new season produces new plant highlights and furthers our goal of greater plant and insect diversity. The aim of our reforestation programme is to assist nature in returning this land back to its original state; simultaneously off-setting our carbon footprint.
